Choose a career, not just a job.
Ask Velma places healthcare professionals from the Philippines and Latin America with one dedicated US practice as HIPAA-trained virtual medical assistants, on long-term independent placements. A monthly wellness subsidy, free training with a certificate you keep, and a community that celebrates your growth. Your skills built a career in healthcare; we help it go further, from home.

It started with a cup of coffee and a shared problem.
It started in early 2024 with a simple conversation over a cup of coffee. The founders saw a growing challenge in healthcare: medical practices were overwhelmed by administrative demands, while highly talented professionals in the Philippines and Latin America were looking for stable, meaningful opportunities to build their careers.
From that realization, Ask Velma was born, created to bridge these two needs: connecting healthcare practices with exceptional virtual professionals who can provide dependable, high-quality support, while giving VAs the opportunity to learn, grow, and build sustainable careers.
But Ask Velma has always been about more than matching a practice with a VA. At the heart of what we do is a simple purpose: to improve the lives of the people we serve. When healthcare practices have the right support, they can focus more of their time and energy on their patients. When VAs have meaningful opportunities and the support to succeed, they can build better careers and better lives. This is the role Ask Velma strives to play every day: a trusted partner and bridge between great healthcare practices and great people.
Dedicated to improving the lives of patients, clients, and VAs alike.
To connect healthcare practices with exceptional virtual professionals who provide reliable, compassionate, and high-quality support, while creating meaningful opportunities for people to grow and succeed.
To become the premier global bridge and most trusted partner connecting exceptional talent from the Philippines, Latin America, and beyond with healthcare practices, strengthening organizations, empowering professionals, and creating a future where great care is supported by great people, wherever they are.
How we work, and how we show up.
We do the right thing, even when no one is watching.
We build relationships through honesty, transparency, and reliability, and earn trust through the quality of our work.
We don't settle for simply getting the job done.
We strive to provide exceptional service, pay attention to the details, and continuously look for ways to make things better.
We remember the people behind the work.
Behind every patient, client, VA, and teammate is a person. We lead with empathy, respect, and understanding, and believe we are stronger together.
We take ownership.
We take responsibility for our work, our communication, and our commitments, and follow through on what we commit to.
We believe there is always room to become better.
We embrace feedback and develop our skills, while creating opportunities for the people around us to grow too.
The VELMA Spirit
Our values come to life through the people who represent Ask Velma every day: our VELMA Assistants. Being VELMA is more than what we do. It is how we show up.
We connect people and healthcare practices beyond physical boundaries, using technology and collaboration to provide dependable support wherever we are.
We stay curious, continuously learn, ask questions, and strive to understand not only what we do, but why it matters.
We build lasting relationships through commitment, trust, respect, and reliability, and value the people who place their trust in us.
We take initiative, take ownership, look for solutions, and bring a positive and determined mindset to our work.
We are here to make a meaningful difference. We anticipate needs, make work easier, and contribute to better experiences and outcomes.

Real moments from the team.
From our May 2026 summer gathering, the Ask Velma community together.

Real questions, straight answers.
Do I need US healthcare experience?
No. Healthcare, nursing, allied health or medical office experience from your home country counts, and our trainee program welcomes new nursing and allied graduates. We train you on US workflows, HIPAA and your client's systems, free of charge.
Is this contract work or a long-term engagement?
You work as an independent contractor, engaged by Ask Velma and placed with one US practice. In practice that means long-term: our first placements from April 2024 are still with the same practices today. You keep your independence, you set up your own workspace, and you build a relationship with one client rather than rotating through a gig queue.
What are the working hours?
Most roles follow your US clinic's day, which may mean evening or overnight hours in your time zone, Monday to Friday, following your client's US holiday calendar.
How competitive is it?
Fewer than 1 in 20 applicants make it through screening, testing and training. Healthcare backgrounds, strong English and genuine attention to detail are what set successful applicants apart.
How do I check on my application?
Apply through any role above. Our recruiting team replies by email at every stage, from screening through placement. Questions? Write to careers@ask-velma.com.
